A nation in a perpetual state of transition, Ukraine is a country stuck in between a more open, modern future and a richly cultured, agrarian past, pulled tense in many directions and traditions that still lie under the shadows of former allies and empires.
Though some believe that the hand of communism has faded more slowly here in the heart of Eastern Europe, the country has undergone recent change in the new century with the Orange Revolution and the shaky emergence of democratic policies. A trip out of Kiev however, exposes regions as different from each other as their capital, and people living among the ambiguity and contradictions of a changing Ukraine, a name itself which literally translates to "on the edge."

My spouse & I spent 27 months (2005-2007) in Ukraine (Kerch, Crimea) working among the wonderful people there. Our Peace Corps experience brought us into orphanages & homes like those Carolyn Drake has captured so well. The starkness & chill are theer, & so is the simple joy of living. Thank you Carolyn.

sorry not buying this…It’s just a collection of nice pictures. She’s obviously been inspired by the great shooters and uses all the good tricks but that is about all.
I don’t see any clear style in this work…I would add that the sequencing needs to be changed as well.
